Week Two: SOMETHING I LOVE/SOMETHING I HATE

For my 'Something I Love' shoot, I am planning on taking images of some of my favorite books and using a ring to create a shadow in the shape of a heart on the pages. I couldn't find a specific photographer who does these kind of images but there are loads of them on the internet so I just picked my favorite and tried to recreate that.  

I couldn't find the photographer who took this image. This image was clearly taken in a studio, due to the use of the studio lighting from behind. The image could work out on location, using the sun as a light source, but as it has to be at a certain angle, it may not work so well. I don't think that there is a flash as, because of the light coming from behind, might have made the photo too bright and overexposed. There is a shallow depth of field as the ring in the foreground is in focus and the words around the edges of the image are blurred but the ones next to the ring are not. The use of a fast shutter speed might have been used as the ring might have fallen due to the balance and the photographer needed to take the image quickly in case it fell onto the pages, it might have been at 200/400. The ISO doesn't look very high as the pages of the book are quite dull in color and the use of the studio light combined with a high ISO would make the image too bright. I think that the photographer was trying to communicate either the love of books or an engagement and both partners have a lot of books. I like this image, as a book lover, I find it really interesting to look at, and clever in that way that someone came up with the idea that a shadow of a ring at a certain angel would make a heart on the bend of the pages. I would like to attempt this image with a plain ring, a book and a torch. 

For my shoot, I will use my plain silver ring on place it on the pages of an open book and use a torch to shine on the book and at the right angle, the ring will cast a heart shaped shadow on the pages. I also wanted to fold the pages of the book into a heart shape. I am doing to show my love of reading and my love of books and works of fiction.
